The Age has recently released an impressive interactive resource you can use to check the crime rate in your suburb.

You can also use it to compare your suburb’s crime rate to find out if your suburb is more or less likely to suffer crimes such as motor vehicle theft, burglary, murder, deception, assault, drug dealing and much more.
Find out if crime in your area is on the increase with the data for each year, showing whether crimes are increasing or decreasing in your suburb.
Werribee tops state for burglary
Using the data we can see the top five suburbs for burglary are:
- Werribee / Werribee South / Derrimut – 875
- Cranbourne / Skye / Devon Meadows – 822
- Dandenong / Bangholme – 818
- Craigieburn / Donnybrook / Kal Kal – 802
- Ballarat + North / Alfredton – 777
Dandenong has the most cars stolen in Victoria
With more than 20,000 cars and other vehicles stolen in Victoria every year, the data shows you which suburbs are most likely to have a car stolen:
- Dandenong / Bangholme – 508
- Craigieburn / Donnybrook / Kal Kal – 396
- Werribee / Werribee South / Derrimut – 325
- Hoppers Crossing – 324
- Preston + East – 304
Dandenong and Bangholme carry the dubious privilege of being Melbourne’s car theft capital with more than 100 more car thefts in 2015 than second place’s Craigieburn and surrounds.
The data has been collated by the Crime Services Agency using data supplied by Victoria police.
